Monica Hamlett is a 1998 graduate of Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law and a 1994 graduate of Mercer University where she received her B.A., cum laude. Over the last 22 years, Monica has practiced in a variety of areas of law to include criminal defense, real estate, family law, insurance defense, personal injury, wills and probate, and more. From 2005 until 2020, Monica worked for the Griffin Circuit Public Defender where she was eventually named Chief Assistant Public Defender, Supervisor over the Upson and Pike County Office, and Juvenile Court Training Attorney. In her capacity as an Assistant Public Defender, Monica successfully tried numerous cases before juries in this circuit, including serious violent felonies. She also won an oral argument before the Georgia Court of Appeals. She has overturned convictions and won new trials at the Georgia Court of Appeals. Her favorite nick-name given by co-workers is “Hammer.”

Monica is married to Sherwin Hamlett and together they have three sons, Jackson, Joshua, and Jonas. Both Monica and Sherwin grew up in Upson County. They attend City of Refuge Church in Thomaston.

In her spare time, Monica loves to run and cycle. She has completed two half-marathons and two centuries.
